When air is compressed, its temperature can rise up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, which causes water to vaporize and become suspended in the air. An aftercooler helps by cooling the compressed air down to within 15 degrees above the ambient temperature. This process significantly reduces the amount of water and other contaminants in the air supply. For every 20-degree reduction in temperature, the water content is reduced by 50%, typically leading to up to a 65% reduction of water in your air system.
